You don't have to be a good writer for your blog to be on top of the ranks!

Monday, July 09, 2007

That is 101% true. That's the very reason I don't even bother to recheck my grammar for each posting. Or maybe I do, but not all the time. I always think that I can never perfect a post. For me editing a single entry is an endless endeavor. Further, I acknowledged my being a no perfect writer and in whatever I write and however I write it, I will never be pleased. Thenceforth, I consider grammatical errors as blessings in disguise. With other professional Pinoy bloggers as examples, writing imperfections could even bring a blog on top of ranking sites.

Try to go through each and every blog of the Pinoy Top Blogs [Philippine ranking site] and you will know what I mean. Here are lines from a single post of a blog I visit often to illustrate my point. Please spot the errors.

"But after sometimes, google dropped ....."

"Google’s algo is design to be like that."

"So, what’s the lessons we should learn from..."

"[name of person] choosed the..."

When I do blog hopping, I never would care a fig on grammar construction. In fact, all I care about are the copious info that I am getting from these pro bloggers. I read so fast, ergo, when a blogger misses an "s" or forgets to place the needed comma, I most likely won't notice it. But when errors appear successively like strings of unmanaged thoughts, my eyes [especially my sixth sense] will begin to flicker the red light. You know the feeling -- the one that even if you don't purposely look for errors, the academic specimen [or call it the inbred critic] in you feels that something is wrong somewhere -- along lines, within phrases. A feeling approximated to an impulse.

Here's from another admired blogger (whose blog I visit quite often too):

"...that there are still several thousand of individuals who supports..."

"...it was [person 1 and person 2] got the lowest two votes and the trend continued until [name]’ time to leave."

These are errors in just one post. Imagine how many there are in the archives.

I have to point out that I made mistakes too. I do, still, even now. Many a times I resorted to raising the white flag because I could never improve my writing skills. However, I persevered knowing that I was not alone in the arena. In cases when I felt so confused of which sentence construction to use, I almost always ended up using the Filipino equivalent instead. It was a good excuse for my grammar inadequacies.

So going back to my first point: you do not have to be a good writer for your blog to be on top of the ranks. Just do the basics:

1. Show all bloggers that you an expert of your field.
2. Give the bloggers what they want: information.
3. Blog in whatever language you like: English, Italian, German, Spanish, French, Filipino, Filish, Taglish, Cebuano, Cebish, and all other combinations you can think of.
4. Think, that whenever you have bad sentences, they make your blog unique (smile). If people notice them, that means they are reading your entries, which is already a good consolation for you.
5. Be yourself. If there is really no way that you can fine-tune those itsy-bitsy distracting grammatical boo-boo, be it.
6. Finally, hope and pray that readers will just get used to your way of writing. There is really no exact recipe for a good personal blog. It's your blog. For as long as you enjoy every post you make, damn all haters!
