Check backlinks: which site links you?
Tuesday, July 29, 2008
Getting backlinks is known to be one of the SEO strategies to getting a high Google PageRank (PR). Backlinks, in fact, is very important and popular term in SEO. The more backlinks (incoming links from other website to your website), the better the chances you'd be given a higher PR, since Google algorithm is said to be dependent on this.
But not all backlinks may be beneficial. High PR blogs/sites protect their ranking by enforcing a "nofollow" for all their external links, especially links to low-ranking sites. That means, even if the have your link on their sites, the backlink has no impact on the improvement to your blog PR ranking.
Backlinks may give you ample traffic, though. Backlinks may even increase your earnings: "Traffic = Earnings" oftentimes is true. If your intention is getting a high PR and be visible in the top page search results of Google, then hope that high-ranking sites won't implement the "no follow" tag, which I think remains always as a hope.
There is a way to check your backlinks. Backlinkwatch.com gives the total external links found on backlink giving webpage. It also tells you if the site linking to you is using the "no follow" tag.
Warning: It takes time to check the individual backlinks. A total of 800 backlinks will take close to an hour to process. But the results is worth the wait.
